AM Facility Safety Certification (AMC-FS)

AM Facility Safety Certification (AMC-FS)

About the Program

AM Facility Safety Certification (AMC-FS) provides a unified, standards-based approach to AM facility safety. This certification is applicable to facilities using metal powder as feedstock.

AMC-FS — What is ASTM AMC-FS?

ASTM AMC-FS is a certification that provides a unified and standards-based approach to AM facility safety based on ISO/ASTM 52931 and UL 3400 (transitioning to an ASTM standard).

The AMC-FS ensures the facility has the proper Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) measures in place they know how to manage the safety processes.

Why ASTM AMC-FS?

  • Demonstrates compliance with globally recognized AM safety standards
  • Enables one AM safety audit instead of multiple safety audits
  • Supports readiness for regulatory body safety inspections
  • Achieving certification shows your commitment to safety that helps ensure everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.
  • Signals supply-chain trust and safety leadership

How does AMC-FS work?

  • Built on ISO/ASTM 52931 and UL 3400 (transitioning to ASTM)
    • ISO/ASTM 52931 addresses metallic powder AM process safety requirements
    • UL 3400 addresses AM facility safety management, encompassing clauses from other safety standards to ensure required aspects are covered

Strategic Benefits

  • More complete AM safety audit criteria across two standards
  • Less downtime due to safety incidents, increasing time available to produce AM parts
  • Strengthens supply chain reputation and supports qualification efforts
  • Reinforces a culture where safety and innovation go together
