About the Program
The additive manufacturing (AM) safety certification program, established by ASTM International’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE), provides a unified and standards-based approach to AM facility safety. This program aims to ensure your AM facility meets the required safety standards required in your AM facility.
Why AM Safety Certification?
- This program provides an endorsement of safety from ASTM that demonstrates your compliance with globally recognized industry-relevant additive manufacturing standards of ISO/ASTM 52931 and UL3400 (soon to be an ASTM standard).
- Achieving certification shows your commitment to safety that helps ensure everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.
- Obtain just one AM safety audit instead of having multiple safety audits.
Strategic Benefits
- The combined audit criteria of two standards ensures a complete AM safety audit.
- UL3400 ensures the AM facility overall safety. UL3400 encompasses clauses from other safety standards requirements to ensure the required safety aspects are covered.
- 52931 ensures your metallic powder AM process meet the safety requirements.
- Less downtime due to safety incidents which means increased time to a produce AM parts.
- Demonstrates conformance to AM safety standards.
- Helps to ensure you are ready for regulatory body safety inspections.
- Certification also signals supply chain trust, supports qualification efforts, and positions your organization as a safety leader recognized worldwide.
Become AM Safety Certified
Certification signals to customers and your employees that your operation meets rigorous expectations for safety.
ASTM awarded the first AM Facility Safety Certification to the national Department of Science and Technology’s Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen) in the Philippines, demonstrating the program’s global applicability.
AM Safety Certification is part of the ASTM AM Certification portfolio, alongside AMQ (parts and process certification), Operator Certification (ISO/ASTM 52942), and Personnel Certification (ISO/ASTM 52926).
Beyond compliance, certification strengthens your supply chain reputation, signals safety leadership to customers, and fosters a culture where safety and innovation go hand-in-hand.
