Ray Huff

Additive Manufacturing Market Intelligence & Analytics Manager

> View on LinkedIn

Always exploring, questioning, challenging, and growing, Ray Huff grew up in the world of manufacturing and marketing, starting from his father’s machine shop making forged aluminum racing pistons for the drag- and street-racing market. Huff learned computer-aided design (CAD) and design for manufacturing in his early teens, starting a small business selling movie prop replicas and aftermarket racing components. Following a passion for communication and teaching, he studied applied linguistics at UCLA, graduating magna cum laude in 2011.

After a foray into various fields including web marketing and design, Huff transitioned into the 3D printing industry working as a desktop 3D printer technician in Loveland, Colorado. Inspired to further the development of additive manufacturing technologies, he earned a second bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He graduated top-five in his class at Colorado State University while managing the Idea-to-Product prototyping lab, leading an entrepreneurial robotics design team, and conducting biopolymer research with AM technology.

While studying, he attended a presentation given by Terry Wohlers, striking a chord for market research and data analytics. From 2017 to 2020, Huff worked as a member of the Wohlers Associates team, scripting and editing the Wohlers Report, summarizing highlights from industry events, instructing DfAM courses, and leading consulting and advising projects. After a hiatus to pursue his passion for Christian training and study, Huff returned to Wohlers Associates powered by ASTM in 2022. As manager of AM market intelligence and analytics, he continues to scan the horizon on the sea of AM technology, parsing the nuances of the AM market, and charting the course ahead.
