ASTM International Signs MoU with South Korean 3D Fusion Industry Association

Global standards and innovation organization, ASTM International signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South Korea-based 3D Fusion Industry Association (3DFIA). The MoU was signed during the 10th ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) Snapshot Workshop jointly organized with 3DFIA earlier this week.

Hosted by the Institute for Aerospace Industry (IIACI) in Incheon, South Korea, the workshop was held in conjunction with ASTM F42/ISO TC261 joint meetings and brought together the world’s leading industry leaders and experts. The MoU was signed by Dr. Mohsen Seifi, ASTM International vice president of global advanced manufacturing programs, and Chungwon Park, 3DFIA president.

The scope of this MoU covers various areas of collaboration, including conducting training courses, performing research projects in support of standardization, and advisory services on the areas of qualification and certification. This collaboration aims to strengthen and foster international collaboration between ASTM and the AM industry in South Korea.

“This MoU is timely as AM corporation on standards, certification, and training was one of the 4 key sections discussed during the United States – Korea Supply Chain and Commercial Dialogue Ministerial Joint Statement SCCD in April 2023,” says Seifi. “This MoU reinforces global technical collaboration to advance the knowledge and international competitiveness of the advanced manufacturing industry as we explore together the mutually beneficial business opportunities across global markets.”

“3DFIA is thrilled to formalize our relationship with ASTM International through this MoU,” notes Park. “Building on our earlier successes, including the 2-day Design for AM Certificate Course, we are eager to continue collaborating with the ASTM AM CoE across various areas including training, R&D, certification, and advisory services.”

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Andrew Gately, senior commercial officer in the US Embassy in Seoul, who also presented at the US/Korea Standardization Dialogue event last month, and Park Kiho, deputy director from Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
